Saving Bali Dogs

This video is a year old, when Bali was in the grip of a Rabies scare. They were poisoning strays until local and international NGOs stepped in. Since Bali is a prime tourist attraction, and very much in the international spotlight, it was easier to get the authorities to cooperate with the vaccination program. There are lessons to be learnt from this: international censure can be a major deterrent to perpetuating cruelty.

As an Examiner Reporter I have chosen the subject of Animal Welfare, this subject concerns the inhumane treatment of animals by humans.  I am writing ths article and future columns in order to educate our public. In Cleveland many citizens are unaware of the global violence that affects all animals. I am going to begin to share these situations in hopes of educating and inspiring the peoples of our city to become more proactive and empathetic as an abusive world affects each of us daily and is relevant as such situations indirectly involve all of us. accuse Ukrainian authorities of resorting to illegal, inhumane methods of stray 

dog culling that cause long, agonizing deaths. The activists claim that dogs are 

poisoned, injected with forbidden substances and subjected to severe pain as

 officials rush to clean city streets of stray animals in preparation for

 the Euro 2012 soccer championship next summer.

One sunny summer morning, a stray mongrel the neighbors called Naida swallowed a piece of sausage she found on the ground. Soon after, she collapsed.

For the next two hours the dog convulsed in agony, barking and howling in a high-pitched voice, saliva and blood dripping from her mouth.
"What did they punish you for, my good girl?" an elderly woman said as she wept and doused the dog with water, hoping to relieve some of the pain. Then Naida died.

PALEMBANG, KOMPAS.com — Gubernur Sumatera Selatan Alex Noerdin membantah adanya pembasmian anjing atau satwa lainnya terkait pelaksanaan SEA Games XXVI di Palembang.
"Isu pemusnahan anjing dan satwa lainnya terkait pelaksanaan SEA Games, saya nyatakan tidak benar. Tidak ada pemusnahan anjing di Palembang," kata Alex, saat mendampingi Menteri Pemuda dan Olahraga Andi Mallarangeng meninjau arena SEA Games XXVI di Jakabaring Sport City, Palembang, Rabu (26/10/2011).
